Football Season Review

№14: Wolverhampton Wanderers

Given how close Wolves were to the play-offs last term, this campaign has to go down as a disaster. Clearly one of the most pivotal moments came when Benik Afobe was sold to Bournemouth while strike partner Nouha Dicko succumbed to a long term injury. With Bakary Sako, one of the most influential players of the last few years, sold last summer Wolves really struggled in the attacking third. They scored just 53 goals all season and there was a worrying lack of excitement at Molineux. They amazingly played four 0-0 home draws on the trot, soul destroying for supporters. With Steve Morgan pressing ahead with plans to sell the club, there may not be much investment this summer. But it is a club that really need to sort out its attacking options. They appear to be sticking with Kenny Jackett for now but this was the first season where the ex-Millwall boss can regard as a failure. A catalogue of injuries throughout the season did not help matters at all.
