Football Season Review

№21: Rotherham United

Rotherham looked down and out before Neil Warnock took over. It had been a season of struggle first under Steve Evans, who was harshly sacked, before a short time under the tutelage of Neil Redfearn. The former Leeds boss really did not enjoy life at the New York Stadium and attacked his squad for not being good enough. That may have been right with Evans' initial recruitment strategy of bringing in ex-Championship players who have not really succeeded backfiring. Rotherham appeared certainties to go down when Warnock arrived. He ensured the Millers' survival with a bland of football not exactly pretty but mighty effective as Rotherham won a number of games against the odds. Captain Lee Frecklington was instrumental in the revival and often played through the pain barrier. Warnock though has now announced he will be leaving the club so Rotherham know they need to appoint someone capable of steering one of the division's unfashionable clubs away from danger.
