Football Season Review

№7: Eintracht Frankfurt

Adi Hutter oversaw a roller coaster of a campaign in his first season in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt with the Eagles overcoming a dismal start to emerge as surprise top four challengers for large parts of the campaign before a return of just two points from their final six games seeing them just about hang on to the final Europa League qualification spot. Frankfurt not only enjoyed an excellent league campaign but were also hugely successful in Europe as they made it all the way to the Europa League semifinals where they held their own against Chelsea before bowing out following a penalty shootout. Efficient attack was a hallmark for Frankfurt in the campaign with Jovic and Haller dovetailing well with each other and the duo were ably supported by Rebic and Kostic from the midfield. While Jovic took the headlines and ended the season as the top scorer, it was Haller who was the more effective player with the attacker scoring 15 goals and chipping in with 9 assists. Frankfurt could be forced to rebuild their attack once again in the summer, with Jovic catching the eye of a number of top European clubs including Real Madrid, but Hutter will be confident that with the right additions, especially at the back, his side can once again put up a genuine European challenge next season

Player of the Season: Sebastien Haller
