Nurnberg endured a disastrous return to the Bundesliga and even a change at the helm in the second half of the season was not enough to prevent them from finishing rock bottom of the league table.
The season got off to a decent start with Nurnberg managing two wins and losing just twice in their opening six games. The wheels though quickly came off as they endured a major slump midway through the campaign, picking up just three points between October and January to dash any hopes of finishing above the bottom three.
By then the club had decided to relieve Michael Köllner and appoint Boris Schommers as his replacement but the change failed to turn around Nurnberg's fortunes as they could manage just one more win before ending the campaign with one point from their final four games to finish at the bottom.
There were a number of problems for Nurnberg at both ends of the pitch with the club failing to score in 16 games and ended the season with the worst attacking record as they scored just 26 goals. They also struggled to keep teams out at the other end, managing just four cleansheets over the course of the campaign.
Barring Christian Mathenia, the signings also did not work out with Matheus Pereira and Virgil Misidjan proving to be major let downs while persistent injury issues all over the pitch meant neither Kollner nor Schommers were able to field a settled lineup.
Nurnberg have since confirmed Schommers will not be continuing beyond the summer with Damir Canadi appointed on a permanent basis to help Nurnberg return straight back to the Bundesliga next season
