Another average season for SC Freiburg who did not show any marked improvement from the previous campaign as they finished the season in a fairly comfortable mid-table spot.
Freiburg struggled for consistency right from the start, managing just three wins from their first 14 games though it was enough to warrant a place near the top half of the table. While they did look difficult to beat in the second half of the campaign, wins were hard to come by and a dip in form in the final weeks meant they were made to wait before confirming their safety from relegation.
Freiburg picked up the same number of points as the last season but did improve their standings by a couple of places while also managing to score more goals compared to the last campaign. Nils Petersen ended as the top scorer once again but struggled to stay in the lineup, managing just 20 starts.
It was the loan signing of Vincenzo Grifo midway through the campaign that proved to be effective for Freiburg as the midfielder chipped in with six goals and three assists from 16 games.
Christian Streich will remain in charge of the club for the next season but investment is needed during the summer to boost the attacking options, if Freiburg are to challenge for a top half finish next season
