Wolfsburg were one of the most improved teams in the Bundesliga this season as a late surge in form helped them defy pre-season expectations of a midtable finish and grab a Europa League qualification spot.
Having needed to wade through the relegation playoffs in order to survive in the last couple of campaigns, Wolfsburg were hoping for a far more comfortable season this time around. The Wolves though exceeded even their own expectations as they put up solid performances throughout the campaign with a 8-1 win on the final day of the season helped them finish sixth in the league table.
Weghorst arguably was their best player this season with the Dutch attacker's signing paying rich dividends as he ended the campaign as both the top scorer and creator for Wolfsburg. Other contributors included Mehmedi, Arnold and Roussillon all of whom played key roles in Wolfsburg's improvement this season
It will be a summer of change at Wolfsburg with Bruno Labbadia announcing he will not be renewing his contract and the club has already identified his successor, confirming Oliver Glasner as his permanent successor. The club have also announced Kevin Mbabu's arrival from Young Boys but it will be further upfront that Wolfsburg will need reinforcements with Weghorst at times having carried the attack and will need support from other players.
