Football Season Review

№26: FC Cincinnati

A disastrous campaign saw FC Cincinnati finish at the foot of the Eastern Conference standings as they wrapped up the campaign with just four wins and 15 defeats from 23 games. Cincinnati's plans for the season suffered a major blow even before the campaign kicked off with Ron Jans resigning and Yoann Damet once again taking over on an interim basis despite losing the first two games. By the time league action resumed, Jaap Stam had taken over on a permanent basis and the Dutch coach managed to bring some stability to a defense that was leaking goals over the last couple of seasons. However that came at a cost of a blunted attack with Cincinnati ending the season failing to score in 14 of the 24 games played. They endured a difficult second half of the season where they managed just one win and lost nine of their final 10 games to finish the season at the bottom of the Eastern Conference. Cincinnati were hoping for a boost to their prospects in the attack following Jurgen Locadia's arrival but the attacker struggled to convince and ended the season with just two goals from 15 starts, though it was just one behind eventual top scorer Kubo who finished with three goals. Stam faces a major job during the off-season and will need to come up with a way to balance a tight defense with improved attacking displays if Cincinnati are to avoid finishing at the bottom for a third successive season.
