Football Season Review

№19: Inter Miami

Inter Miami had mixed fortunes in their inaugural season in the MLS, just about managing to make it to the playoffs thanks only to an expanded pool of qualifiers, before losing out to fellow expansion club Nashville in the Play-In round. Miami went into the campaign following some heavy investment in the transfer market but endured a difficult start to life in the MLS, losing their opening five games including all three group matches in the MLS is Back tournament. Miami did show glimpses of their quality, especially in the second half of the season after their roster had been bolstered by Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain's arrivals. However, lack of consistency, especially away from home, meant that they had to rely on a win over Cincinnati in the final game of the regular season to seal a 10th placed finish that secured a place in the playoffs though another poor display against Nashville saw them end the Play-In round with a 3-0 defeat to bring a disappointing season to a close. There are a few question marks for coach Alonso for the next season, especially in the offense with Higuain yet to show his consistency while Matias Pellegrini failed to convince on the flanks and Miami will need to find the fix to put up more consistent performances next year.

Player of the Season: Blaise Matuidi
