Football Season Review

№17: Vancouver Whitecaps

Vancouver Whitecaps narrowly missed out on a place in the playoffs as they finished ninth in the Western Conference, just three points short of eighth and final playoffs spot. The Whitecaps were keen to improve on their disastrous campaign the previous year and made a decent start to the season, picking up six points from their opening five games. But they experienced a major dip in form following the resumption of regular season, losing four of their first five games, that saw them drop closer to the foot of the Western Conference. Vancouver did put up some impressive displays, twice beating Real Salt Lake while also pulling off an upset against LAFC, but those moments were a rarity and, despite a convincing display against LA Galaxy in their final game, it was not enough to ensure a finish above the red line for Marc Dos Santos. There were some positives for Dos Santos with Cavallini showing glimpses of his quality while Montero also showed signs of returning to his best form, especially in the second half of the season. Vancouver though are still in need of improvement both in terms of consistency and roster options if they are to challenge for the playoffs come the next season.

Player of the Season: Lucas Cavallini
