Football Season Review

№15: Hamburger SV

There is very likely going to be a clear-out in Hamburg if recent press reports are anything to go by. It was a terrible season for HSV and almost a disastrous one since a first ever relegation looked on the cards at one stage. Indeed, 15th place is the lowest they’ve ever been and 38 points is their worst ever tally for a season. Hamburg don’t have much going for them and it’s clear they require to enter into the transfer market. It appears coach Thorsten Fink is to continue as team boss but one finds it difficult to appreciate why his first big purchase is a top goalkeeper. Apparently, Rene Adler is moving from Leverkusen to Hamburg despite the fact that HSV’s top player was without doubt goalkeeper Drobny. If it hadn’t been for him, they’d have been relegated!! Anyhow, nobody can question Hamburg’s ambition as one of their main target’s is Dirk Kuijt of Liverpool. With Petric now gone, they certainly need some firepower up front despite the ability of Paulo Guerrero.

Player of the Season: Jaroslav Drobny
