One of several sides who successfully dealt with the threat of relegation was Nuremberg. However, they did so by sticking with their team coach Dieter Hecking through thick and thin to eventually move up table. Team captain and goalkeeper Raphael Schäfer was again the driving force behind Nuremberg. The goalie pulled off some miraculous saves when the going got tough. The Bavarians’ problems were in attack where they ran up a series of games without scoring at all during a lean spell toward end of season. However, they managed to straighten themselves out just in the nick of time. Eigler lost his form altogether scoring just once in 23 appearances, while they had to rely on Tomas Pekart for most of their goals this time round. That’s not to forget a midfielder of the future – Daniel Didavi who bagged as many goals as any of the front men. The question is, how long will Nuremberg be able to hang onto him?
