There were several teams during the season that looked likelier to be relegated than Cologne, but it all backfired on the last day for Podolski and company. Not only did the crushing defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich send Cologne down, but for good measure, the German Football Association are initiating proceedings on account of subsequent rioting which broke out amongst the fans. However, Cologne will be more concerned about life without Podolski than any action taken by the DFB. If Cologne weren’t regarded as a one-man team during much of the season, they could certainly have been seen as a two-man team. Podolski and goalkeeper Rensing were constantly outstanding whilst most of the remaining players lacked basic discipline with some such as Novakovic having a serious attitude problem into the bargain.
