Football Season Review

№8: Hull City

The Tigers were left thinking about what might have been on the final day of the season as a drastic loss of form in the closing stages of the campaign saw them slip out of top six contention. Hull had been in and around the playoff places for the entirety of the season but a run of five straight league defeats put paid to any chances of cementing a top six finish. Defensively City continue to be one of the best sides in the division, both home and away. Although this has also been to the detriment of their attacking prowess at times. Away from home their form has been impressive. It is at home where they have often struggled for goals and inspiration for their home faithful. The central defensive pairing of Jack Hobbs and James Chester has been the bedrock for their strong season, while the creativity and guile of Robert Koren in the engine room has been most invaluable. Unfortunately it will be back to the drawing board for Hull supporters this summer following the shock departure of boss and local favourite Nicky Barmby. The rookie boss, who took over from the departed Nigel Pearson last autumn, spoke out about a lack of transfer funds and was promptly suspended by the board of directors. There appears to be no positive resolution to the action with a new manager likely to be in place to regroup for 2012/13.

Player of the Season: Robert Koren
