Football Season Review

№16: Millwall

Lions supporters will have been mighty relieved at their low mid-table position at the end of April considering their precarious position midway through the campaign. Millwall boss Kenny Jackett was under increasing supporter pressure, but a handful of effective loan signings in the second half of the campaign turned their season around, ending the year with five wins in their final six matches. Jackett was hoping to build on a strong finish to 2010/11 with the likes of Liam Trotter, Shane Lowry and John Marquis all benefitting from another season of regular first team football. However, Trotter's season in particular was plagued by a thigh injury and Millwall sorely missed his dynamic presence and goal threat. One positive was the performance of summer signing Darius Henderson. The target man was signed as a replacement for the departed Steve Morison and the former Watford and Sheffield United ace finished as leading goalscorer despite frustrating injuries of his own in the second half of the season. Jackett will know his side have to hit the ground running next term if he is to hold onto his job for a fifth successive season.
