Football Season Review

№12: Bristol City

Another bizarre campaign at Ashton Gate. For much of the season, Bristol City looked like they would have a real chance of making the play-offs, but never convinced when the pressure was on. Lee Johnson appeared to be doing a fine job again and proving why he is regarded as an impressive young manager. However, he was sacked after losing four games in a row after the restart. Even after that, City suddenly had a couple of promising results and could still have made the play-offs. City looked good in attack with Nahki Wells and Famara Diedhiou, but injury to new signing Benik Afobe did not help. Diedhiou was named player of the season although he is likely to be slightly disappointed with just 14 goals. They also had a fairly large squad with plenty of options available while the defence did impress at times. In the end though it seemed they really lacked belief they could challenge at the top and that put pay to any play-off chances. They need to make a new appointment as manager soon so they can rebuild. They need a few new experienced players as well to help some of the impressive youngsters.

Player of the Season: Famara Diedhiou
