Football Season Review

№6: Swansea City

Swansea missed out on promotion - not that they looked like they were capable of it for much of the campaign. The Swans only made the top six after a stunning finish to the season where they extraordinarily won 4-1 at Reading to make the play-offs on goal difference. After a strong first leg showing with a 1-0 victory they were second best in the second leg losing 3-2 on aggregate to Brentford. Steve Cooper can be pleased with his overall display as manager this season especially as they so nearly pulled off a bit of a shock. In the end, the Welsh side needed loan players to help them make the play-offs. Keeper Freddie Woodman, attacking midfielder Conor Gallagher and forward Rhian Brewster were all outstanding, the latter scoring 11 times in only half a season at the club. Matt Grimes and Andre Ayew were also impressive with the latter netting 18 times and finishing top scorer. It could well be a tough summer though with the loan players going back. They were such a pivotal part of the play-off charge that they will take some replacing. It will be another difficult summer for Swansea City and they must regroup quickly in time for the restart.

Player of the Season: Andre Ayew
