Football Season Review

№6: Leicester City

Leicester suffered an agonising conclusion to the season when Anthony Knockaert missed an injury time penalty to win it in the playoffs at Watford before their opponents went right down the other end to win it. The Foxes will now have a pre-season of contemplation and they really should have been celebrating promotion. They looked comfortably in control sitting in 2nd place but then managed just three league wins in the last three months of the season. The poor form increased the pressure on Nigel Pearson but the manager looks set to remain at the club. Defender Wes Morgan and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel had outstanding seasons while Knockaert proved to be an inspired signing. Dave Nugent and January arrival Chris Wood scored 27 times between them. Leicester will be devastated that they could not kill off teams despite dominance in games, their failure to take chances or play in different ways when Plan A was failing proved to be their undoing. Pearson has wanted to keep a close-knit squad but is likely to add more players in the summer as they finally look for a Premier League return.
