Football Season Review

№17: Blackburn Rovers

It was certainly a season to forget for Blackburn Rovers playing staff and supporters as they flopped in their first season back in the English second tier. Uncertain leadership from the very top at Ewood Park has led to a string of interim managers over the course of the campaign since the departure of Steve Kean back in August. Henning Berg and Michael Appleton came and went within a few months of each other before caretaker boss, Gary Bowyer helped steady the ship and ensure they remained in the Championship for 2013-14. Bowyer has since been rewarded with a 12-month rolling contract as Rovers' permanent manager. Blackburn would almost certainly have been in even greater trouble this season had it not been for the frequent goals of £8m summer signing, Jordan Rhodes. The Scotland international impressed greatly, bagging 28 goals. Worryingly for Blackburn, their second highest scorer was Scott Dann with a paltry five. Stability has to be the key for Blackburn next season, with the club's inexperienced owners the Venky's needing to do much to appease the fans who have voiced their concern regarding their ownership for much of the season. Bowyer's appointment may go some way to calming the waters and creating some unity on and off the pitch next term.
