Football Season Review

№8: Nottingham Forest

In the end, Nottingham Forest's bizarre policy of sacking managers proved to be their undoing. Sean O'Driscoll completely changed the squad around following his arrival and it was successful with his side around the play-off zone when he was axed on Boxing Day after victory over Leeds. Replacement Alex McLeish had a nightmare time lasting just a month and it was the poor run under him that undid Forest. Billy Davies returned to the side promising "unfinished business." His side immediately went on a six match winning run but could not sustain their form. As it was it went to a last day decider with rivals Leicester but Forest were beaten 3-2 in a dramatic game. There are still reasons to be positive. Chris Cohen was outstanding at left back while Henri Lansbury, Greg Halford and Simon Cox all settled well into the side. Forest badly need wide players and it is this part of their game that Davies will strive to build over the summer. With Kuwaiti owners the Al Hawasi family at the helm there should be more money for Davies to spend, although he has yet to make a signing since his arrival in January.
