Football Season Review

№22: Peterborough United

After a valiant fight against the drop, it was a heartbreaking last-day defeat to Crystal Palace which sealed Peterborough United's League One fate. Darren Ferguson's men endured a torrid start to the 2012-13 Championship campaign with seven straight defeats to their name. However, a very strong second half to the season and a vast improvement to their home form at London Road gave Posh a realistic chance of escaping relegation. However, despite impressive away wins including a victory at champions, Cardiff, it came down to a final day decider at Selhurst Park. Posh failed to better the results of Barnsley and Huddersfield and subsequently slipped into the third tier. Rebuilding their squad will be another tough task for Ferguson, who insists he will not be jumping ship. It was a tough call for Player of the Season at London Road, with ever-present keeper, Robert Olejnik impressing between the sticks despite shipping the most number of goals in the division. However, full back Mark Little's consistency over the course of the season saw him take the gong. Posh missed the creative presence of long-serving winger, George Boyd in the second half of the season after leaving to join automatic promotion hopefuls Hull City. A new era beckons in Cambridgeshire next term.
