Football Season Review

№2: Hull City

Hull City secured automatic promotion to the Premier League on the final day of the season with a nail-biting draw against champions Cardiff City proving enough to secure second ahead of Watford. Steve Bruce's men fought consistently hard to maintain their position in and around the top two places for much of the season and duly dragged themselves over the finishing line in dramatic style against the Bluebirds. City's home form was once again the foundation for their successful season with 13 league victories at the KC Stadium. However, it was on the road where they also excelled with only Watford enjoying a better win record away from home. Bruce's counter-attacking 3-5-2 system benefitted the likes of Robbie Brady and Ahmed Elmohamady, who shone in wing back roles providing an excellent defensive and attacking balance. The January introduction of Egyptian striker, Gedo also added fresh impetus to help them over the finish line, along with tricky wide man George Boyd. The core of the team has been present for a few seasons now, with James Chester and Jack Hobbs in central defence and the likes of Robert Koren and Stephen Quinn in midfield containing plenty of experience that ultimately proved the difference. Premier League survival will no doubt prove tricky but Bruce has proved he can manage in the top division in the past.
