The Revs had a dreadful 2024 campaign, finishing fourth-bottom in the MLS after winning just nine of their 34 games. Only bottom-placed San Jose Earthquakes conceded more times than New England (74), who scored a league-low 37 goals. As a result, what followed in the offseason was a complete overhaul of the roster. Out went as many as 18 first-team players, including six starters. In came several several footballers with MLS experience, including star signing Leonardo Campana from Inter Miami. This means that Caleb Porter has been working to build a team from scratch, as not even half of the 2024 starters are expected to make the first XI this term. Theoretically, the Revs proceeded to a roster upgrade, but it remains to be seen whether chemistry will be achieved on the pitch. Porter believes that Campana could "become one of the best strikers in MLS" and the potential is certainly there to exploit. Should he manage to build the team around Campana, New England’s attack could certainly become their main strength. It’s doubtful whether the new arrivals could provide the defensive stability the Revs need following an extremely poor 2024 season. Their backline frailties could prove costly again this season.
