Football Season Review

№9: Brentford

Brentford in the end just missed out on the play-offs after a season which flickered into life in periods. The Bees had a dreadful start but responded well and were especially good in the second half of the campaign. Brentford never really looked like being amongst the play-off contenders though, even if a late rally initially provided some belief that 6th place could be caught. Brentford will want to avoid being known as a selling club. They lost Lasse Vibe midway through the season having sold Jota, Harlee Dean and Maxime Colin to Birmingham in August. But Dean Smith has worked wonders with the players he has. Smith has proved himself to be one of the finest up and coming managers there is and attracted West Brom before they went for an alternative option. But he has now spent some time at Griffin Park so knows what is needed. Smith is likely to make signings in the summer and Brentford will be especially keen on a promotion push next season in their final year at Griffin Park. The old fashioned old ground always allows for a decent home record with a proper atmosphere thanks to its close-knit feel. Brentford like to give young players a chance with Ryan Woods their best player this season. Their main weakness this campaign was their extraordinary chance to conversion rate. Week after week, the Bees were up amongst the top sides in the country with their shots but struggled to kill off teams. It is an area they will be desperate to improve upon over the summer.

Player of the Season: Ryan Woods
