Football Season Review

№11: Bristol City

Bristol City can only be disappointed that this promising campaign fell away late on as otherwise it was a mighty impressive one. Lee Johnson can reflect on a season where City challenged, and even found themselves in, the top six for long periods. Most significantly they also beat Manchester United in the League Cup on their way to a semi-final appearance in that competition. In the end they ran out of steam late on in the season and their overall 11th place finish does not tell the story of how much promise they showed. Again Joe Bryan impressed in his versatile full back/winger role. The biggest success story was Bobby Reid though. Reid was successfully converted by Johnson from midfielder to striker where he found the net 21 times. His strike partner Famara Diedhiou, the club's record signing, was also in good form with 14 goals in his debut season at Ashton Gate. Additionally Aden Flint's decision to stay at the club was vital with the defender producing a number of noteworthy displays. City must now invest wisely over the summer months and hope that Bryan and Reid can stay put. They at last seem to be in a consistent place, not something said about this club in a while and will now be looking to push on next time around.

Player of the Season: Bobby Decordova-Reid
