Football Season Review

№12: Ipswich Town

You know just what you're going to get with Ipswich if the last few years are to go by. Again the Tractor Boys had a bleak season finishing mid-table in the Championship yet again. There was next to nothing to get excited by. Mick McCarthy has now left the club after several years of stability, to give a positive word. McCarthy initially announced he would be leaving at the end of the campaign a month beforehand but then left before the remaining games. Ipswich started the season well enough but soon fell away from play-off contention. McCarthy had signed well with Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner adding plenty to the attack. Bartosz Bialkowski was once again superb in goal and was again player of the year although Waghorn did at least run him close this year with an excellent debut season, where he found the net 16 times. It is a big summer for Ipswich. They need to get their next managerial appointment right and they need to make some good signings. With the safety net of their old manager gone, the new campaign could go several ways: they could challenge nearer the top, could be involved in relegation contention or they could just finish mid-table again. At last there seems some excitement at Portman Road but it may not equate any success at all.
