Football Season Review

№18: Hull City

This will in the end go down as a very disappointing season for Hull City but there was little harm done. The Tigers really struggled following their relegation to the Premier League as they failed to adjust to Championship life. Their new boss Leonid Slutsky really was not able to influence much and it was not until Nigel Adkins came in that they looked like a club capable of moving forward. Even under Adkins they took their time to change things around. But in the end Adkins managed to get the best out of his side, and large squad in which he often rotated. Injuries to key players such as Abel Hernandez really hit the Tigers hard but they produced a real find in the shape of youngster Jarrod Bowen with 15 goals from midfield. The loan signing of Harry Wilson also appeared to be an inspired piece of business. Keeper Allan McGregor, who is leaving the club, took the player of the season award. Hull were well adrift of the bottom places in the end and one would feel they could even have challenged for the play-offs if Adkins had been at the club the whole season. Already the vastly experienced Championship manager has put some of his recent disappointments behind him and looks capable of pushing this club on.

Player of the Season: Allan McGregor
