Another side that sacked a team coach to appoint a new one in order to avoid the drop was Frankfurt. However, there was no fairytale ending on this occasion. The team coach switch most definitely did NOT work. Christian Daum failed to get any results at all on the run-in, apart from forcing a draw with Bayern Munich. It was a disastrous conclusion to a season to forget for Frankfurt, considering they were in 7th place going into the winter break and challenging for a place in the leading group! It was clearly rapid deterioration in the latter part when they went game after game without even scoring a goal, far less recording a victory. Eintracht lost match after match whilst all other relegation candidates with the exception of St Pauli recorded one win after another. Not even Theofanis Gekas´s 16 goals could save Frankfurt from the drop. The problem was that no other player in the side scored more than two goals all season. That in itself is quite a record.
