Football Season Review

№8: Hamburger SV

This is definitely a season to forget for Hamburg. HSV again chopped and changed their team coaches as well as their tactical game. Players must surely have got accustomed to getting barracked in home encounters when things just didn’t work out. It certainly happened frequently enough. There was no end to the chopping and changing. Even goalkeeper Frank Rost was replaced by veteran goalie Jaroslav Drobny, as Hamburg blamed anybody and everybody for their shortcomings. To add to their woes, the club failed to reach an agreement with Brazilian star Ze Roberto, who now appears to be moving on to pastures new. Former Man Utd and Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy also seems bound for the premier league. Their other top striker Guerrero lost his form toward the end of season when goals were truly hard to come by for the northern German team. Most Hamburg players lacked consistency but David Jarolim was one of the few who gave his all throughout. In any case, the most recent team coach has failed to get HSV back on course, and the only reason he hasn’t been chopped, is probably due to the extraordinary turnover of team coaches throughout the season.
