If any side can be compared to Schalke for taking controversial decisions, it´s Wolfsburg. The new team boss is their previously successful coach Felix Magath, but that was after ridding themselves of other coaches earlier in the season that couldn’t get the Wolves to tick. Magath´s departure from Schalke was perfectly timed to facilitate his return to Wolfsburg with the urgent objective of saving them from relegation. It was touch and go but the master coach actually achieved his objective on the last day when his side won 3-1 in Hoffenheim. It wasn’t without more controversy though, when the coach declared there was no place in the side for the brilliant midfielder Diego. It was a gamble that paid off as the team performed much better in the absence of the egoistic Brazilian. Diego stormed out on the club and refused to travel to Hoffenheim. His future with Wolfsburg is now uncertain, but whatever Magath decides is always good for the whole of Wolfsburg. He turned this average outfit into Champions before and there is no reason he couldn’t do it again. However, for the moment it´s time to rebuild with top scorer Edin Dzeko gone and Grafite having lost some of his old sparkle. Another striker has come to the fore though. Croatian Mario Mandzukic could be the new Dzeko if his end-of-season performances are anything to go by.
