Things didn’t go too well for Kaiserslautern initially, but a very strong finish would see them leap from the danger zone at the foot of the table to end up in 7th place. It was a stirring finish to an acceptable campaign overall for the promoted side. Four outright victories in their last four encounters with St Pauli, Schalke, Wolfsburg and Bremen was no mean feat. The Red Devils started out after being promoted from the lower division by beating Bayern Munich fair and square, but it all went downhill not too long afterwards. Srdjan Lakic was without doubt their top man and top goalscorer. They have him to thank more than anyone for concluding their campaign is such fine style. Only Gomez, Cisse and Novakovic scored more Bundesliga goals throughout the season. Set piece specialist Christian Tiffert was also instrumental in seeing the Red Devils hold their own in the top flight. The former Stuttgart player created many goalscoring opportunities for his team-mates, and his experience was invaluable for the plucky Red Devils.
