Flamengo had an up and down season in 2024. They were expected to fight for every major title. However, the team led by Tite failed to get into the race for the national title, was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores by a weaker Peñarol, suffered with major injuries and he was sacked. Filipe Luis took over, adopted a more aggressive approach, won the domestic cup and played good football for the rest of the season. Striker Juninho and centre-back Danilo are the only signings for 'Fla' so far. The first was signed as a backup for Pedro, who is still injured. The last arrives after a successful career in Europe. He will compete for a starting spot and can play in any position in the defence. Club legend Gabriel Barbosa and Fabricio Bruno both joined Cruzeiro. Carlos Alcaraz, Carlinhos and David Luiz also left. None of them were regular starters for this team. In 2025 Flamengo already won the Brazilian Supercup and Campeonato Carioca, beating rivals Botafogo and Fluminense respectively in the finals. They've been playing very well, dominating opponents and being pretty solid on defence. With the maintenance of last year's core, a few key signings and more time under the command of the promising Filipe Luis, ‘Mengão’ looks considerably better than last year.
