Very lucky to avoid relegation last season. Ended up right above the bottom 3. Only the 3 more goals they scored compared to Varnamo kept them out of the relegation playoff. It was difficult 2024 from the get go. Many injury issues, several regulars sustained season-ending injuries even before the season began, managerial change a week before the season and bad finances hinted early at all that. Up until June Göteborg looked in huge trouble. Then Stefan Billborn took charge as the HC. Some savvy cheap moves made by him in the summer helped. Göteborg played better from September onward. This was enough in the end, barely. Things haven’t gotten much easier in the winter. Göteborg remain under serious financial restrictions due to past debts. Saw 11 players leaving. Among them the 2024 top goalscorer Paulos Abraham and 4 other important forwards. Also, experienced defenders Oscar Wendt (captain last season) and Emil Salomonsson retired. Another of the experienced defenders Sebastian Ohlsson moved on. Haven’t added a single new defender to the ranks so the back line looks much weaker without the 3 veterans in it. Right now Bager and Yeboah are the only natural defenders on the roster. It seems midfielders August Erlingmark and Adam Carlén could be used as CBs often this year. Also, wingers Thomas Santos and Anders Trondsen are primed to be requalified as full-backs. The front line also looks weaker. Added 2 new players in attack Max Fenger and Sebastian Clemmensen. Both are young, inexperienced and yet to prove they can score often at Allsvenskan level. Yet, they seem destined to be the main hope up front this year.

Target

Stay out of trouble.
