Football Season Review

№12: Cardiff City

Cardiff can overall be pleased with their season after looking like being firm relegation contenders in the early part of the season. Having failed to bring in many signings in the summer, the Bluebirds really struggled under Paul Trollope who was then dismissed with the club in a predicament. But then came in Neil Warnock who really turned things around with his brand of far from pretty but certainly effective football. Warnock did not make many new signings so this summer could now offer him an opportunity to do just that. After leading Cardiff out of the bottom three, the confidence appeared to visibly return to Cardiff City Stadium and they were especially impressive on home soil. Kenneth Zohore was a major beneficiary of Warnock's arrival as he reflected the new found confidence with 12 goals in the campaign, all of which came after Christmas. In contrast, Rickie Lambert, a summer signing, scored just four times in a season marred by injury. Aron Gunnarssson was named Cardiff player of the season but in reality the best man of the campaign was Warnock who was able to turn the season around despite the odds being against him at the time of his arrival.
