Football Season Review

№15: Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves will be overall disappointed with a campaign where complete disaster was avoided. Having looked strong in recent seasons, Kenny Jackett surprisingly departed on the eve of the season once new ownership was in place. Walter Zenga came in as manager and signed numerous foreign players, completely changing around the squad. Not surprisingly those new players took a long time to gel and Zenga paid with his job. Then Paul Lambert came in his place and did an adequate job helped by a strong FA Cup run. Lambert ensured Wolves were never in a relegation battle in the second half of the season but there was far from progress in this half of the campaign. In fact Wanderers have seemingly gone backwards. It now appears very likely that Lambert will leave the club over the summer so the club is in some kind of limbo. They clearly have far too many players that have been signed in the season just gone and it promises to be an interesting summer to see who stays and who goes. The only seemingly outstanding signing last season was Helder Costa who had an incredibly impressive campaign and was at the heart of all Wolves' good moments. However he could be off too with plenty of clubs interested in signing him.

Player of the Season: Helder Costa
