Football Season Review

№21: Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest stayed in the Championship but only by the skin of their teeth following a truly dreadful campaign. Under the ownership of Fawaz Al Hasawi, the Reds really did not go anywhere and interested waned away with crowds the lowest they have been for a while. Philippe Montainer was always fighting a losing battle and Forest were in some trouble when he left the club midway through the season. Caretaker Gary Brazil really steadied the ship before Mark Warburton took charge, not without difficulty. Evangelos Marinakis eventually bought the club at the end of the campaign to give them some optimism for the future. Forest only survived on goal difference after beating Ipswich on the final day of the season. Forest were really saved by their young players despite bringing in flops Nicklas Bendter and Ross McCormack on mega money. Ben Osborn excelled in midfield as he continued to deliver, turning into an almost ever-present figure, while Ben Brereton justified Brazil's decision to play him more regular. Forest will do well to hang on to the pair. There certainly appears to be a lot of rebuilding on and off the pitch necessarily following the end of Al Hasawi's time running the club.
