Football Season Review

№7: Leeds United

Leeds can be mightily frustrated. They looked on course for a play-off spot at least before a desperate end to the campaign ensured they missed out just as it looked like a top six place had been guaranteed. Boss Garry Monk worked miracles despite a poor start to life at Elland Road and brought excitement to this long suffering club for the first time in years. In Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley, Leeds had a strong defence while Chris Wood really proved himself to be a lethal finisher with 30 goals in the campaign. However it was not enough and despite Massimo Cellino finally leaving the club, Monk was to follow him out of the door in unexpected fashion to leave Leeds searching for yet another new manager. It feels like the Whites are back to square one which is a shame given how positive this campaign was. Much depends on how the new owners establish themselves and bring in the right man. Certainly reinforcements are necessary and they will do well to hold on to Wood who really staked a claim to play at a higher level. Another standout player was Rob Green who was impressive in goal despite his veteran status.

Player of the Season: Chris Wood
