Football Season Review

№15: AFC Wimbledon

Wimbledon are coming from their first-ever season in the third tier, with the Dons fulfilling two of the biggest dreams their fans had when the club was formed, as they defeated MK Dons in a league game and also had periods during which they were above their bitter rivals in the league table. Given the well-known circumstances under which the club was formed, their raise throughout the league ladder has been simply astounding and their fans will be delighted that they managed to comfortably survive in League One in what was their first-ever season in the division. It took them some time to find their feet, as they lost their opening three games and only claimed their first victory in their sixth game, but they gradually got better and won themselves a lot of fans with their brave approach, as they were looking to go toe-to-toe with pretty much any opponents they faced. Their finishing position does not really tell the story of how comfortably they beat the drop, as they secured their survival with plenty of games to spare, with Neal Ardley rotating his side a lot in the closing season games and with his side winning only one of their last nine as a consequence. All things considered, the Dons are coming from a very successful season and will be hoping for more of the same next time around.
