Football Season Review

№23: Coventry City

There is not a single League One club that has been surrounded by more toxicity than Coventry this season, with the Sky Blues' season being marred by frequent managerial changes and fan protests, with their relegation being effectively sealed around two months before the season actually ended. Winless in their first ten games, with Tony Mowbray leaving as a consequence, they improved for a period under caretaker Mark Venus, and it seemed that they would manage to get clear of danger and avoid their first relegation to the fourth tier in more than 50 years. However, it was not to be, with the Sky Blues eventually replacing Venus with Russell Slade in December and ending the season with Mark Robins in charge, with Robins taking over with the task of rebuilding the squad, as he took over at a time when it was already unrealistic to expect him to keep the side up. Coventry have been surrounded by numerous controversies over the recent years, including the infamous season when they played their home games outside the city of Coventry and their fans have just about had enough and have spent the majority of the late stages of the season protesting and there have been reports that bids have come in to buy the club from the current owners, although the first two bids were rejected. The only positive thing about Coventry's season is the fact that they won the EFL Trophy, but this is hardly a consolation, given that the club, despite being arguably too big for League One as well, will ply its trade in the fourth tier next time around.
