It ended up being a disastrous end to the season last term for Roda JC as they failed to cling on for the second automatic promotion spot. They failed miserably in the play-offs as well, crashing out at the first hurdle after suffering an emphatic 8-1 aggregate loss to NAC Breda. Still, manager Bas Sibum was named Manager of the Season for what was still an impressive campaign. He’ll aim to go one step further this term and earn promotion for Roda. That will have to be after making a fair amount of changes to the squad, however. Defensive losses in Boyd Reith, Teun Bijleveld, Matisse Didden and Laurit Krasniqi will see a change up at the back. Koen Jansen, Thomas Oude Kotte, Nathan Markelo, Jay Kruiver and Tim Köther have come into the squad, adding some good depth, too. There have been a number of changes in midfield as well, with the likes of Lennerd Daneels, Nike Vossebelt, Walid Ould-Chikh and Sami Ouaissa all leaving the team. Ould-Chikh will be the biggest loss after he made a total of 20 goal contributions in the league last term. Joshua Schwirten is the only central addition, but the likes of Patriot Sejdiu and Iman Griffith can play out wide in more advanced roles. Tiago Cukur looks set to lead the line for now after arriving from Fenerbahce. That will look to make up for the loss of Vaclav Sejk who has returned to Sparta Prague after his loan.
