Volendam were awful for the majority of last season and quite clearly the worst tea in the Eredivisie, thus heading back down to their natural habitat of the Eerste Divisie after these last two seasons. There was just not enough experience and know-how in the camp last year and the aim now is to build a more cohesive and balanced squad that can mount a challenge for an immediate return. Rick Kruys has been appointed as a new manager after doing some respectable work at VVV Venlo in the previous two seasons and he will hope to spearhead a strong campaign and make Volendam a major contender. There has not been that much in terms of new additions so far but bringing in a solid and assured defender like Mawouna Amevor is certainly a pretty good move. More action is certainly needed to make this team a more competitive unit, even more so after losing good players like Luke Le Roux, Brian Plat and Damon Mirani over the summer. Volendam still have two very experienced strikers in Robert Muhren and Henk Veerman but the lack of genuine quality on the wings and attacking midfield is an issue. That said, the team already has the base quality to be one of the major contenders and the aim for Kruys will be to avoid any unnecessary missteps early on and keep the team close to the top places when the business end of the season comes.
