Ajax had a pretty poor season last year and never looked quite convincing or impressive for a sustained period of time throughout. The team seems to be lacking the sort of talents and stars they had a few years back and ultimately it looks like the current crop of youngsters is not quite to the standard that the Ajax academy is known for. Coach Dave Vos stepped down at the end of the campaign and Frank Peereboom assumes charge as a new man on the touchline for the current year. He has been with the club a number of years, coaching various youth sides and being coordinator, and is thus well aware of what is expected from the Ajax youngsters and how they are supposed to play the game. Players like Julian Brandes, Julian Rijkhoff and David Kalokoh made good impression at times last season and will hopefully look to establish themselves more and play a bigger role in the year ahead. The hopes are that some of the younger players in the academy indeed make the step up and among them are Kayden Wolff, Rayane Bound, Avery Appiah and Dies Jense. Still, this is far from a vintage Ajax group of youngsters and they are unlikely to do much better in terms of points than last year.

Target

Perform better as a whole than last season.
